Writing Coach

Need help with your High School or College Essay?

If you are not sure or confident in communicating via the written word, or if you just want a second pair of eyes to look at your essays, the answer to your question is, “Yes, I need a writing coach.”

In talking with college admissions counselors I have discovered one thing — you will be judged by your application essays. Count on it!

I asked a number admissions counselors, “What are some of the biggest mistakes you find.” Below are some of their answers:

What are the most common mistakes students make on their admission essays?

● Not carefully proofreading their essay for grammar, usage, punctuation and factual errors. An essay that is otherwise solid in content can be offset by careless errors that would have been caught by proofreading, or—better yet—having a trusted teacher or counselor proofread.

● Another all too common mistake is when students are applying to numerous colleges and they forget to change the name for each college. Many strong personal statements and essays have been marred when a student says I look forward to attending _____ university and it’s a different name than the university they are applying to!

Be honest. Be yourself and make sure some one looks at your essays before you submit them.  Here’s what of of my “young” clients wrote after trusting me to help:

I am writing to strongly recommend Mr. Don Rush in his abilities to properly coach students in all forms of writing.

“I was given Mr. Rush’s contact information by my cousin who needed help writing her college application essays. She was very pleased with the advice and revisions Mr. Rush provided. I too needed help in writing my college application essays. I emailed Mr. Rush my concerns and goals I had in mind for college. He assured me  these goals were attainable and realistic. He gave me adequate confidence and never wrote any of the essays for me. However, he helped bring out my own skills and knowledge to their full potential in a way for me to convey exactly what I wanted in my essays.

“Mr. Rush was always prompt and got back to me swiftly. I can say that Mr. Rush played a significant role in helping me achieve admissions into Brown University of the Ivy League, which is where I will be attending come the fall.

Follow your dreams and and give yourself the best chance of getting into the college of your choice.  For essay projects I charge low rates, and will work with you one-on-one via email. It’s easy. If you need help, I am here for you.
